Doing The Devil's Work from JasinElric's blog

There's been a lot of talk lately about furthering Satanism.  Many people seem to feel some need to give back to something that's completely indifferent to them.  It baffles me.  I use Satanism, it does not use me; but this is not the case for the motivated, fresh-cut Satanist.  They need to DO something.  It reminds me a lot of the famous JFK quote, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."

I know there's political motivation behind furthering Satanism, but this is not in regards to anything TST is doing, this is about the individual Satanist who simply wishes to spread the word of Satan.  "Doing the Devil's Work" so to speak.  I've pondered the motivation behind this for some time, and haven't been able to come to many conclusions.  It may be that our differences lay in what the Devil's Work actually entails.

For me, Doing the Devil's Work is using all the knowledge I've gained, in places the meek masses have been horrified to look, to further myself in their world, creating a most gratifying, beneficial personal world for myself.  Satanism has been the pen and paper with which I've been able to draw my own path, where others have just used a pre-made map.  It was the first, but most important tool I've used in building my castle in the sky.

I cannot deny that Satanism has been the single most important driving force in what has shaped, and continues to shape my life, but do I owe it anything?  If I do owe it something, how would I go about reciprocation?  How do I reimburse an entire lifetime of new understandings and perseverance?  Being that the work itself was all done on my part, and Satan was simply the nudge, how much do I really owe?

My personal conclusion is that I don't owe Satan shit.  I do the Devil's Work every day, what's the most I could offer other than overtime?

To the fresh-cut Satanist, I suppose handing out fliers for the business could be considered Doing the Devil's Work, but is that really what you want out of all Satanism has to offer?  An entry level job?

I can see "furthering Satanism" as valid only as long as there is profit to be made.

"Satanism has been the pen and paper with which I've been able to draw my own path, where others have just used a pre-made map."

It's all nice and dandy but too many pests that infest the Satanic networks try to define and codify Satanism, trying to describe in detail how that path should look like. So they keep pontificating about what Satanism is, what it means to live your life in a truly Satanic way and who is a true Satanist and who is a fake Satanist. And woe to you if you don't agree with them because you'll be called a fraud.

I ain't trying to codify a damn thing for anyone but myself, but there is definitely a big difference in my application than most of the fresh-cuts. The map analogy was directed at the religious, sorry if that was unclear.

Personally, I feel I owe nothing, other then respect where it has been earned. I have no desire to use Satanism to further some political, spiritual or social goal. I choose this path for the betterment of myself and my loved ones...I have zero interest is converting people, or even giving them a glimpse into this world...the tools are out there for the people who want to learn more, and the wise will draw their own conclusions.Personally, I feel I owe nothing, other then respect where it has been earned. @Jasin, I know it was directed at the religious but the fact is that some Satanists are equally dogmatic. If you take a look at the CoS with their claims they are the only true Satanists and others are pseudo-Satanists or many online quarrels about what the true and legitimate Satanism looks like, you'll know what I'm talking about. Somehow an individual gets lost here.

Oh and dear Luz, actually I didn't call anyone a fraud so stop talking out of your ass for once. I know you're butthurt but still...

Very true, Anna. The first blog I posted on SIN made mention of things like that. The CoS is like The Simpsons of Satanism, and internet Satanism is a fickle, fickle mistress xD

If a card player shows their hand every time they play, would you call them a good card player?
(trick question as it also depends on if they are the dealer or not)

Many go through the openly rebellious stage. Some grow out of it and yet others look for a cause to fight for. To some it is not the cause but the fight it's self that is the focus and the cause is the excuse.

So once again it is not the action seen that is important but the reasons behind it. In my openly rebellious stage I found going against the powers that be was the better fight. I actually avoided joining groups even though I may of met groups of people I made it clear I ride alone. Others seem to seek out groups and their reason are many. Some join groups to borrow fame where as others search bigger targets they can't take out on their own.
