The Autumn Equinox is upon us!

The season of maturity and wisdom; of crisp air, falling leaves, and of harvesting deeds sowed.

Satanism in general is a philosophy that discourages false equality. Not everything is equal, some are better than others. Fred is smarter than Greg, but Lucy is smarter than Fred, and Greg is a lot stronger than either of them. People are different, unique, and for the most part inherently unequal in certain categories. Satanism, in general, will acknowledged this, and discourage false equivalency between people who are not equal in a given area.

Why, then, are we so tolerant of the notion that ideas are equal?

There are many cases when we are too quick to jump to the conclusion that two competing ideas are somehow on equal footing, and must be given equal consideration. This is a cancerous, poisonous trend that we should be careful to avoid. We need to realize that yes, you can indeed be wrong.

Define wrong? By wrong, I mean demonstrably, proveably, completely wrong. When the overwhelming majority of evidence weighs against an idea, it is wrong. When all logical arguments point to the invalidity of an idea, it is wrong. When something just is not factually correct, it is wrong. It doesn’t matter that it being wrong offends you, or implies something unpleasant, or that it hurts something. What is wrong is simply wrong. No amount of being offended or petulant whining will change that. This does not apply to abstract ideas, where there is plenty of logical wiggle room, or philosophical ponderings, or where the evidence is anything but overwhelmingly conclusive. Within the realm of thoughts and opinions, it is hard to pin anything down as being demonstrably wrong. You can disagree with them; that does not mean they are wrong. But where facts and evidence come into play, it is much more often cut and dry. If you are wrong, then you are simply wrong.

An example: The recent shitstoem over vaccinations. Now, I don’t know your position on vaccinating children. I don’t really care. What should be clear, however, is that there is an overwhelming scientific consensus: Vaccinations do not cause any significant harm to those who are vaccinated. Vaccines do not cause autism. Some previously suppressed diseases have begun to re-emerge, thanks in large part to the growing trend of parents refusing to vaccinate their children. Not vaccinating your child puts them directly at risk of contracting contagious diseases. Now, notice how each of those sentences ended with a period. They were not qualified, they were not compromised, they were absolute. That is because each of those statements is a fact. Thus, the anti-vaccination position, unless it condones the act of putting children at risk, and has a decidedly pro-polio agenda, is quite simply wrong. They are wrong. Demonstrably, they are wrong. Thus, these ideas should be tossed out without further examination. They should get no platform on which to spread their ignorance. They do not belong on the same stage as properly debatable ideas, or on any stage where facts and evidence come into play.

Now, that is just an example, but the problem should be made clear. When unequal ideas are made equal, it is immensely more harmful and more absurd than the equal treatment of unequal people. With this in mind, be sure to examine your ideas, and examine the ideas of others. Forever seek the truth. When dealing with reality, let logic guide your scrutinizing eye. When the wrong and factually incorrect try to seek equal treatment, demand to be given the same voice as the factual, put your foot down, and do not let ignorance advance any further.

Because yes, you can be wrong. And, when you’re wrong you’re wrong, and you should be told so.

I'd really like to throw this one into the mix, described to me as Weird Science but with the Devil instead of a cute broad being summoned from a nerd's computer - Stars Clint Howard as a bullied geek who wreaks havok via a supercompuer, it was banned in the UK by Maggie Thatcher in her war on so-called Video Nasties, at the time Maggie was palling around with Jimmy Savile and screwing the miners.

From a thinkers & writers perspective

Since people here seem to post their experiences and thoughts I thought it is about time I started posting mine too.

I was indoctrinated to be religious for most of my life. Unlike others I already used to start thinking with my logical perspective. Why things should be as they dictated and so on. Up until the moment was about seven years of age I never had a care in the world except seeking to do what was right and trying to reason out things and of course doing my best to please my family.

My biggest pitfall came at around the age of seven when I lost someone. He was the last person I thought I would loose, I prayed to 'God' desperately to bring him back to me, as my family told me it was the only thing I could do....well I was wrong. I concluded that if God really cared, the God they preached to me about then he would have never allowed it.

I was torn and tormented bound by a promise I had made to him before his death that I intended ( and still do) to maintain. But I didn't know evil marked, I was so enveloped in my own misery my key point was solely - survival. How it mattered was of little importance to me.

I met someone a few years later, someone who was at my father's funeral, someone who knew what I had been through, someone who knew my mother from an early age, someone who bought my families trust and loyalty, someone who would change life's meaning and someone who destroyed me in most ways I thought were impossible - Ironically enough, he was supposed to be a man of God, however weakened by his own obsessions.

I was ten. I didn't know much about life, nor the world, my family kept me innocent, pure and uncorrupted. I had to go to secondary school and go to PSD classes to actually understand 'something' of what was really going on.

I became a rebel. I tormented anyone who dared to oppose me, I stood up to my bullies. If I got slapped, I wouldn't make a whole scene of it I would just accept it and move on. It urged my bullies to go on but they never had the essence to really break me.

Whilst I was tormented and living in my dark and twisted little world, I even laughed at my friends because they were viewed as pathetic in my eyes. Pathetic because of their innocence.

However, I did have a very close friend. She never pressed me for what was going on with me, her simple friendly gestures just grounded me. They gave me a reason to not be completely corrupted and devoured by the darker side of me.

Now one would ask me. Why didn't you talk ask for help? He was  a man of God. He knew what he was doing because he never left enough bodily proof of what he did to me, he never allowed himself to do that mistake. My family looked at him as though he was almost their savior and there was little I could do, especially because he sad if I talked he would take everything I ever loved. My mother being one of them. He also worked within the higher ranks of the Church the Church was regarded almost higher than law back then. Fear when dominant can lead you to conceal anything -so long as it allows you to protect those who you love and care for.

When I was thirteen the frustration, tension, emotional and psychological chaos began getting at me. My religious faith went down to zero. I challenged anyone who dared to prove me otherwise. I met a fair few decent people but it never inspired me enough to radically change. Darkness got a hold of itself and I began actually practicing it, looking for it's deeper meaning and indulging in things barely any teenager should ever do.

Me and a few friends decided to play the Ouija board and I laughed all the way telling them it was amusing how imagination could evoke such interesting things thus turning them into reality. Nah. That was not what I was looking for, but it opened my mind to start searching and likewise I did.

But whilst I was searching, the key came to me. Someone handed me Anton Szanzor LaVey's Satanic Bible and I knew it would change me in more than one way.

But I was still interested in the spiritualistic aspects of it so I investigated deeper into occultism.

By the time I was fifteen I was so dark, tormented and depressed I barely cared for my own existence any longer. I just did what I had to, to survive and I did what I could to keep my promise.

Obviously I built my own standards and belief, doubted in almost everything and didn't care much for anything or anyone. I had had more than enough by then.

Luckily I never resorted to the use of drugs. But I did get drunk a few times just to get rid of some memories that were haunting me.

I had migraines almost all the time, people thought I was making it up no one made an effort to understand me, so instead of opening up and trying to find a solution I literally closed down.

From the moment I was sixteen up until I was seventeen I met someone who inspired me enough to divert my route of choice. I tried, I did it to the best of my abilities. I became Christian again, I read the bible, prayed and was pretty much ok with what was going on even though judgment from my family did not help me much.

I was definitely much happier, people who knew me asked me what the hell happened to me, because the spark of radiance, love and joy was there. They didn't see the darker side of me that they were so accustomed to.

I stripped away all objects related to occultism , evil and Satanism I chose God iin my life, I even baptized myself in his name to confirm it and I lived his word to the best, attended charismatic services, helped and prayed with others...

But clearly there was something that wasn't balanced. There was something that wanted to remind me who I was what I REALLY was, and that I actually belonged to darkness.

The experience as horrific as much as it was enlightening, up unto this day after consulting with experts AND researching non stop I'm not fully sure what it was, no was I alone.I've witnesses to this story but that is up to you to believe not for me to indoctrinate you about it. I know it changed, me once again. I began doubting in everything I was taught, my rebel nature began to kick in again, and I was returning back to the person I originally was.

Now because I unluckily have what we all 'repressed memory' I have only flashes of what actually occurred to me. What I concluded was that I was all mind generated that it was a mental breakdown because of the confusion going n my mind between choosing the path of darkness or the path of light. Clearly God wasn't there in all the suffering and pain I had to endue and inflict on others unintentionally. I'm not proud of it, but I'm glad to say that I rose up from my own ashes, from the dust I myself created and resurfaced as something stronger, something more real, with a story to share and with a lesson to teach.

Today I can say I'm free. I'm an atheist that built her own philosophy and belief based on knowledge and past experience.

I favor logic and knowledge over spirituality and useless trifling methods to lead oneself into possible insanity. I thrive for knowledge learn and exchange experiences with others.

Last and foremost -I believe in myself and what I allowed myself to be.

I have a sushi chef interview tomorrow. I am hoping for the job. But, I am not gonna hold my breath. Japanese owned. And my experience is not all that great with Japanese chefs. For many reasons. Japanese chefs tend to be racist. Many turn their nose up to white chefs. Some Jap chefs feel that white chefs have Americanized sushi. Which is true we did. Although I am trained in both traditional and American style. Also I am left handed. Which is frowned upon. Left handed people in Japan are largely consider to be evil and or retarded. And my strike three is my tattoos. In Japan people with tattoos are usually criminals. So, I am a white, evil, retarded criminal in the mind of many Japanese chefs. Oh well.

As a Satanist, every context which i enter into i watch for demonizing. It is part of what i have identified as a principle of my Satanism that i support the underdog, engage what i consider to be a discipline of martyrdom which emphasizes the identification by abused, dualistic slanders, legitimating them through direct contrary, benefic action in association to their name. To me this is the spirit that runs through all the cults prior to and posterior to the Satanic in the Left Hand Path as it has developed during the course of the last century above ground and by name.

The internet is, where i have ventured, a topic-identified terrain. Every one of these allowed for the possibility of identifying a new "Evil", a new "Wrong", and a new dualistic condemnation into which i might fit myself. The first primary choice on my part was within my occult order. I had read many of the works of the occult author Aleister Crowley and noted with distaste that he had engaged a dualistic rant against those whom he termed 'Black Brothers', the 'Fratribus Nigris' as i reflected on it. I notice additionally that my kin within that order (the O.T.O.) were applying this to those whom they saw as rivals, of 'doing things the Wrong way', and generally whom they condemned. I realized at that time that my name within that order would need to be 'Black Brother', and out of sympathy for the condemned (and a touch of bad Latin) i aspired to attain to the exalted aims of the Thelemite while i chose as my initiated name 'nigris', later discovering its numerological value of 333, a resonance with the Demon of the Abyss, Choronzon, and many other things.

One of the defining characteristics of this Abysmal Demon (333) is a multifaceted identity or polyfaciae, at times associated to dispersal and psychosis. Whereas my aims were always the same and subsequent self-identifiers in qabalistic (hara), Muslim (Haramullah), Wiccan (Lorax666 of the Evul Wikkhunz), and Satanist (boboroshi, nocTifer) contexts have to me and those i know resolved to a single coherent center, consistently i have been opposed by those who took surface for content, label and packaging for what and who i am, and those who want to use labels and names to castigate and berate others in juvenile ways.

My conversion to Satanism (i wasn't born into any religion) primarily oriented in opposition to what i regarded as a lux-o-philic and anti-darkness bias exercised by Hermetic and Neo-Gnostic occultists interested in escalating Lucifer to a high status, while casting the rest into ignorance, such that even this alternative name for Venus remained forgotten. I forged my pact with Satanas Paternas, wrote my scripture, and summoned demons all under the name 'nocTifer' or 'bringer of darkness'. My time as part of the Church of Euthanasia, a fanciful escalation of Satanism as i understood it, detracted little from this, and when that ecclesia dissolved around me i was content to resume that darkness-oriented identity.

As i began to understand the media developments within Satanism, watching several 'shells' of technical venues left abandoned by users (including at first alt.satanism in a flight to protection, then in several series of moderated venues with new technological presentations, such as yahoogroups, googlegroups, and then waves of web-boards), and the replication of media form through time emphasized by availability of broadcast (text, sound, video), it became obvious to me that my prediction from the 1990s that the internet would compete with, and then completely replace, television (which i generally dislike) would come to pass, and that semi-interactive novelties such as BlogTalkRadio.com and YouTube.com (YT) were the sonic and videographic landscapes, respectively, into which a good part of intelligent discourse was headed after having fled from IRC and usenet long ago.

I trailed Satanism through boards, and was intrigued to find it making innovative appearance in YT. Due to my disciplines and observations of social repercussions, i avoided YT as i had avoided photographs and film for more than 2 decades. When i met Beast Xeno in IRC (one of these former 'wild zones' for chat: a moderated subset of it) he exposed me in greater depth to something i'd already known about from Venger Satanis: the Cult of Cthulhu. Though it related to the mystical works of Gurdjieff, the outstanding horror of Lovecraft, and somehow tried to twist itself around a form of Satanism ostensibly distended out of LaVey, i had heretofore avoided it on account of the corrosive methods taken by Crazy Wisdom teachers like Gurdjieff and Rajneesh. That Beast liked it was intriguing, and i found his friendship inspiring enough to seek out his writings interior to that private web board (another reason i'd avoided it - its privacy). I would go on to assist their efforts somewhat in the Cult, interact with a number of its other members, and become recognized as a Keeper of the Green Flame therein.

That was odd enough and fun, but something that i hadn't expected was his radio show with Venger Satanis, called 'The Ooze'. It was new technology to me, even though my guru had a student who was a professional radio producer and DJ, they'd been doing a show together for years, and i would later replace him operating the sound board for more recent versions of that show unto this day. Encountering The Ooze was intriguing, and gave me incentive to follow Beast into another project he indicated to me he had a strong part in producing: the Satanic International Network (S.I.N.). It was just beginning, and as i explored it and the people involved with it (finding out as much as i could about Zach Black, for example, in order to integrate him, along with Beast and Venger, into the references on well-known Satanists i have maintained), i began to realize how 'out' its participants were in YouTube (YT). That there was some emphasis on cameras in the Tinychat there, and presentation of footage of this once or twice to YT by Zach was noted by me in my estimation of its character.

At some point i undertook to explore Tinychat.com, and noticed that the intense reaction i had received in regards my appearance was enhanced and doubly-strong amongst the conservatives who frequented it ("Osama! Are you going to bomb us?!"). I understood fairly quickly that this was a reproduction of usenet and IRC but in videographic media, and that YT was a fair but private replication of usenet. At that point the sequential development of media became clear to me, and shortly thereafter i had a vision of engaging YT while preserving my vow of humility (with some suggestions from my guru): I could wrap my face and take on a proper pseudonym. My brief exposures to YT through association with my good friend Venus Satanas made it clear to me what the "Wrong", "Evil" and condemned class of individuals within it were called: trolls. This became so obvious that the term was now abused so as to refer to anyone whose position or expression one did not like.

I knew that, like in every other venue (topical), i needed to self-identify properly so as to pursue my practice of Satanism as i understood it. In the Satanic and YT contexts i pinpointed my nickname therein: Troll Towelhead. The surname was amusing and yet proper in that i had been given a Turkish turban to wear and a religious office to occupy and maintain (Grand Mufti of Satanism) by my guru, and these were perfect for my purposes in opposing an obvious anti-Muslim supplement to the anti-satanism of the 1990s. I saw this carry also into the Satanic subculture, striking alongside a willingness to accept fascism and bigotted stupidity of many sorts, ostensibly in the name of 'embracing evil' or 'self-development'.

The first name, however, was so thrilling, so exciting to me on account of its multi-valence, that i could barely contain myself. What a discovery! This wasn't just applicable to YT, but to every internet venue! The future of internet Satanism as i knew it! Its character in relation to how intellectuals who dispute against and reveal uncomfortable features in faulty logic or philosophic discourse were slandered with the name was precisely what i'd observed as regards the term 'sophist' amongst some philosophers. Popular cynical Satanists repeatedly mentioned the term and its use for castigation was precisely what i seek out in topical contexts as facile and chilling.

The secondary dimension to the first name 'Troll' was in part what thrilled me the most, since i have for many years studied magic, and have more and more strongly began to focus on folk magic and its materia magica (something my guru loves in relation to African American culture and encourages the world over).

A fellow student of my guru who apprenticed with her here for weeks is also a fan of The Devil (particularly Der Teufyll, the Woods God/god(s)). While he was here we had long talks about demonology and its intersection with wild nature, trying to come to some kind of understanding of the God Satan and its relation to magic and my scripture. We discussed my scripture and my general method, and he began a newfound interest in the folk magic of his own Swedish homeland. He went back to Sweden and after numerous social adventures and turns of fate dug deeply to discover the details of the folk magic of his homeland. Our projects and studies have been intertwined ever since, and he discovered that the word for folk magic (/witchcraft) in Swedish lore is "trolldom", and that trolls are another name for magic user!! The whole folkloric beast-complex in part centers on the fact that these are elder wild folks who know something of magic. For a person to call themselves a troll is to effectively proclaim their occultism. This is a correlate to 'witch' in multiplex fashion.

Doing a search online (primarily on YT) i reminded myself that the original usage for the term 'troll' and 'trolling' relate to VERBS not nouns, and that it pertains to fishing: casting out baiting expressions and seeking indisciplined responses with the hopes of manipulating and hoaxing (landing) a 'Big One'. Everything after this has been a castigation (at times quite amusing!) of monsters on the order of vampires or werewolves or demons (see my "Manifesto Satanika" for more on the development of these in modern religious history, from witches to satanists, then on to vampires, werewolves and demons, epitomizing in what i predicted in the form of Lovecraftian monsters and the Cult).

When i decided to take the name Troll for YT i wondered what i might want to do about the S.I.N., especially since its owner and several of those who were part of it were also heavily involved in YT, and there was such an emphasis on visuals within the tinychat people had remarked about being popular therein. I decided that its emphasis was such, and the style of interaction (contenteous, focussed on by some as 'crushing haters' and 'exterminating bullshit') was such, that this YT pseudonym was far better than 'nocTifer' (which a number now began to misidentify as 'noctifier', probably due to the small font on the site). I knew that this would be controversial, but given the trust i had in Beast in particular, and in Zach, i choose S.I.N. (1.0) to become the origin and proving grounds to make that change for my Satanism, and to make it permanently. It was the best decision i ever made.

This was not without forethought, and not without a long history of socially-transformative engagements i sought out in pursuit of martyrdom as i have understood it (not death seeking, but virtuous witness of truth from a position of condemnation to tyrannical power). I decided to try it out regardless of the consequences, and begin to enter into chat and the forums as i was moved by compassion, defending love and comradery, society and bonding friendships.

I saw the attention being paid to cynical and biting Satanists who spoke in gaming terms of 'pwning', and who made frequent mention of trolls. I tried to reflect a pure and perfect complement to it, emphasizing another pole in what i think of as a neo-tantric apex, and proceeded to argue in favour of tolerance, criticizing manipulators and bullies (even real trollers!).

Generally i made little effort to conceal my identity, though i occasionally distracted away from my person, location, or background with fiction. I wanted, instead, the focus to be the topics of our conversations, and i said little also about my witnessing interests, the background of trolls i'd discovered, or the Great Martyrdom Cult of which i think we are all part, and whose little eddy in a Satanic sandbox i was part of creating.

At first i was accused by one or more of its moderators of nefarious and false motivations, behaviours, as i had expected might occur, and this brought with it the deletion of my account more than once in S.I.N. (1.0). Yet my allies running the board quickly understood my heart and motivations, the style and substance of my Satanism, and how i was bringing it even to the very heart of Satanism, and eventually reinstated me, more than once.

Since then i've gone on to make a very good name for myself, my title, for Demonic Satanism in the commentary and publishing of The Gospel of Satan and continued service to Satanists and Satan, extending en toto some 17 years and developing into a personal relationship with the Devil himself.

I'm very happy to have returned to S.I.N. (2.0), resumed my Troll account here, and look forward to establishing new friendships as well as to rekindle old ones in a fresh, and more friendly, environment.

Where to begin?

When I was in high school,

I joined the wrestling team.

One of the first moves all wrestlers learn:

the half nelson. 

A half nelson is an effective way of turning an opponent onto his back.

Excitedly we learned the move,

and used the move.

Then,

we learned how to counter the half nelson;

(it’s easy to counter.)

As a result,

a half nelson became a move that was only effective against someone inexperienced;

useless against an experienced opponent.

Many wrestlers give up on the half nelson.

I never did;

made it work fairly well.

In my second year I learned how to wrestle freestyle.

High school wrestling is folkstyle,

freestyle is another form,

slightly more dangerous.

I had a new mentor,

During the first day of practice,

Many laughed.

Everyone in the room was experienced,

most in the gym had given up on the move.

Although no one said it,

many in the room felt the half nelson a WORTHLESS move. 

Joe: “Why did you laugh?”

A kid named Sean replied,

“I think everyone laughed because we all know the half nelson;

it doesn’t work.”

Joe: “Let me show you how to make it work.”

Joe proceeded to demonstrate his VARIATION of the power half nelson…

Joe: “The way to make a half nelson work is with pain.

If your opponent feels physical pain,

they will BEND to your will.”

Joe demonstrated how to get leverage on the opponent;

to put so much PRESSURE on an opponent’s head and neck:

they had no choice but to turn, (YIELD).

So…

REVERSE ENGINEERING: BLACK BOXES 101

Reverse engineering, as you might suspect, is the reverse of engineering. 

Engineering is the art and science of creating something which performs a function: you need to hold up the weight of a bridge so you engineer a column with the right width and depth to hold the weight you need at the proper height.

Reverse engineering is the art and science of determining the structure which performs a function: you see the the bridge, know that something needs to hold it up, then look below and lo and behold there's a column. ( If you were monkey-wrenching, you'd then proceed to blow it up and see if the bridge comes down, but that's another post. )

There are two flavors of reverse engineering -- 'open box' and 'black box'. 

Open box reverse engineering is where you can see directly see the structure, either by looking directly at it or by having some other kind of direct perception -- a microscope, radio telescope, fMRI -- you get the picture.

In this kind of reverse engineering, you can just observe whatever it is in action and if necessary do some simple tinkering directly with it's structure to figure out how it works.

Black box reverse engineering refers to working with structure you can't see and have to work with it indirectly. (And this, my friends, is where it starts to get really fun. )

The academic black box is just a black box with any number of inputs and any number of outputs, usually pictured like this:

Inputs ---> [Black Box] ---> Outputs

In this post, I'm going to cover some well known black boxes which have only outputs. I'll cover inputs in a later post, because my main objective here is to give a clear idea about what a black box exactly is.

Astrophysicists mainly work with black boxes simply for the fact that most of what they study are at least several light years away and so there's no way to get to what they're studying and even if they did, it's impossible to get a look inside something like a star or a black hole.

Instead, they study the outputs of their black boxes, outputs like the qualities of light coming from a white dwarf and the gravitational pull of a black hole. 

( Actually, in the second case, it's a long chain of outputs. Since they can't measure the gravitational pull of a black hole they measure the mass and speed of the stars orbiting it. Since they can't directly do that, they measure the qualities of the light coming from those stars. The chain looks like this :

In other cases, like the study of geologists, the black box doesn't exist as one whole thing in one place but as a series of processes over time, but luckily the outputs (rocks) are easy to study. For example, a geologist can look at a rock and tell you it was initially formed in a volcano, then moved by glaciers where it wound up under the sea for a few thousand years, finally to find itself in a desert, where you found it and brought it to him. ( If there's anything that geologists like to see it's not a new kind of rock, but an indicator of a process they haven't seem before. )

My favorite black box is the human mind. Everything someone says or does is an output, and as Banachek pointedly pointed out: "you can't not communicate". This leads into some seriously fun 'lesser magic' involving outputs few people pay attention to ( not body language, but that's fun too. ), but I'll have to leave that for another post.

MAD SCIENCE 101

Or, some things I consider the core skills and knowledge of that thing I sometimes refer to as 'mad science'.

REVERSE ENGINEERING

Reverse Engineering is a way of learning from experience. It's an application of the core scientific method to whatever thing you want to reverse engineer.

This isn't as amazing as it sounds. Just about everything scientists do under the name of "research" is an act of reverse engineering and anyone who learns primarily by "trial and error" uses the scientific method by virtue of their experimental approach ( contrasted by the method of repeatedly banging one's head against a wall ).

So, what I'm really talking about when I talk about reverse engineering is something that people tend to do anyway. The difference is that most people don't apply the skill to itself -- in other words, reverse engineer reverse engineering.

Why do that in the first place? Well, I'm glad that I imagined that you asked.  And the answer is -- the same reason anyone would want to reverse engineer anything -- to figure out how it works and improve or learn how to use or do it better. For me, it's all about getting better at what I do, and I see just about everything from either a reverse engineering / system hacking viewpoint. ( This is my blessing and curse,  folks. Like Crowley said the reason you learn about Magick is because you can't help but do it anyway, so the only real choice you have is to be a good at it, or bad at it. So, well... )

A related skill is monkey-wrenching, which is reverse engineering something by breaking it in ever more creative ways. ( And I do love the monkey-wrenching, as the only rules that matter...)

SYSTEMS AND SYSTEMS HACKING

A system is anything which is composed of different parts where those parts interact with each other in a way that each part of the system has an effect on the entire system. It requires a kind of thinking where you are looking through a microscope through one eye and the thing itself as a whole with the other.

For example, the flaps on the wing of an airplane cause the entire airplane to turn, and if the landing gear of an airplane were to fall off in flight, the entire plan would crash.

Hacking is simply getting a system to do something it doesn't normally do, and possibly hasn't ever done, but something it's capable of doing according to it's structure.

If someone were to hijack something on a plane which made an electric spark, say the wires of the bathroom light, and somehow fed it into the plane's fuel tank -- then it would be a reasonable assumption that the plane would explode when someone turned on the bathroom light. This isn't something planes are generally designed to do and it's something they typically don't do but it's something that it's capable of doing 'according to it's structure.'

CYBERNETICS

Cybernetics is the science of steersmanship, in other words, the science of controlling systems, and the foundation of whatever process which allows a system to do something on it's own. ( It's also the difference between a mere machine and a system, at least in my opinion. Though you'll often hear me refer to such things as rocks as systems. I'll explain later. :) ) 

The autopilot of an airplane is essentially cybernetic. It needs to know where it's going and keep it on course as the wind blows the airplane off course. If the airplane gets blown to the right, the autopilot turns the airplane back to the left -- not to degree it was blown right, but to the degree it's off course.

So, you could say that anything cybernetic is also intelligent to some degree, at least while performing the function it was designed for. The thermostat of a house is cybernetic -- it's good at keeping the house at a constant temperature but terrible at math.

The essential function of a cybernetic system is regulation, and this is where Mad Science becomes Mad Philosophy and more importantly, Mad Psychology -- as self-regulating creatures, we humans are a cybernetic system.

Additional Note: The legitimate reason I can call a rock is a system is because when you pick one up it becomes involved in your 'systemness' and you become it's cybernetic element. Systems are plastic like that: two people talking form one system.  The real reason I call things like rocks a system is because I'm lazy.

The definition of hypnosis is different depending on who you ask, even among skilled hypnotists. The reasons for this is legion, but I think I've found a way to explain hypnosis in a way that anyone can understand.

The main problem with hypnosis is the confusion between the hypnotic process and what is generally thought of as the 'hypnotic state.' 

The so-called hypnotic state is just a state where the hypnotic process can be the most effective. It's like that position martial arts experts contrive to get someone into so they can demonstrate their 'talent' -- any 'off-balance' state will do, but the cliche is to get a volunteer to thrust a knife at them, which not only gets the job done in getting them off balance but the outstretched arm also gives the martial art 'expert' an easy handle to use.

The way this position is similar to the hypnotic state is that anyone can throw anyone once they have their opponent in this convenient off-balance position ( which I'm told never happens in a real fight ). Similarly, the hypnotic state it's easy for hypnotists to do what they do, but it's a state that almost never happens in real life except in very specific circumstances.

The hypnotic state is a deep state of suggestibility in which the critical mind has been shut off. It's very similar to a dreaming state where no matter what happens, no matter how strange, you just go along with it; if you are dreaming that you're at home, walk through a door, and suddenly find yourself in a movie theater, well, that's just normal.

What makes the hypnotic state so useful to hypnotists are three things --

1) the subject is passive

2) the subject's critical mind is shut off

3) the subject's imagination is on overdrive

With a subject in this state all a hypnotist has to do is speak a narrative which the subject can passively follow along with.

All forms of experience which require someone to become passive to it are naturally hypnotic. Most forms of entertainment these days are hypnotic in this way -- movies and television are the most hypnotic for the masses, reading books is the most hypnotic -- you probably won't believe it -- for those that make the best hypnotic subjects.

In the days before mass media, the rhythmic beating of a drum and the swaying of movement worked well. The swaying of dance and the swaying of a boat along the waves are equally as hypnotic.

Believe it or not, a roller coaster is a hypnotic device -- it requires it's riders to become passive to it and go along for the ride. 'Keep your hands in the coaster' and 'you must be this tall to take this ride' part of it's induction method.

So, there's the hypnotic state and the process of hypnosis. With the hypnotic state defined as I've defined it here, the hypnotic process is the process of directing someone's experience, and that's about all it really is.
