Since this is my first blog post, I suppose I will talk about my first impressions of this lovely website. At very first, I thought the design was a b...

    Funny you should mention this.

Even though I am a former moderator who has recently backed-off due to a since-resolved misunderstanding, I do have a great deal of insight with respect to your observations that I still think are still worth mentioning.

At the end of the day it's an Oxwall install on a web server somewhere out there in the ether. Oxwall is a free platform that anyone with the wherewithal to configure and maintain handles all the heavy lifting that goes into a social networking site. It (Oxwall) is its own thing coded and maintained by people highly skilled in the abomination that is PHP. They – the actual Oxwall developers – they don't care what it's used for, specifically. It's their only wish that it is used. It could be a site to talk about restoring vintage cars. It could be a site about Satanism. It's a platform that they put-out there that SIN decided to run-with.

This is not to shift blame, by the way, but just to clear-up any misconceptions. SIN just isn't some custom rolled product with a team of engineers maintaining all the low-level functions that go into such a thing waiting to take anyone's calls concerning its usabilty. It's a concept facilitated by a tool that literally anyone can install for free. The platform that underlies all of that is just a tool.

There are some bright people out there who are capable of customizing the thing. I happen to be one of those people. But still, Oxwall's an imperfect-but-pretty-stable product, written in a language I'm not all that keen on, and there's just only so many hours in a day. Why let the perfect be the enemy of the good? Does it render poorly on your phone, tablet, or gadget? Then either don't use that, or take the time out to thank the Oxwall developers for the work they put into their product and suggest ways to improve it. They'll probably listen, albeit with a smirk if you can't cite specific line numbers and functions you would write better. Have you checked the source code - the actual PHP? Can you read it? Do you actually understand what it's doing? It's not that simple, is it? ;)

We “get it” everyone's an aspiring developer and just totally knows how to make things better. That's actually the right spirit. But what actually goes into a product like UBB or Oxwall is a whole 'nother level. That takes teams and years upon years to even make usable. It's not out of the realm of possibility you may be one of those people who are so-equipped – who really knows what they're talking about – but they're a rare breed nowadays focused on newer technologies.

The site: “SIN” aside from some .css and some plugins, is otherwise user-driven. You'll get out of it what you put into it. If someone thinks the site sucks, then post something worth responding to. If someone wants to see the site fail, don't post at all. It lives and dies by its user-base. That's actually what drives it. It's not some highly-skilled gaggle of code-monkeys constantly editing and updating code per user feed-back concerning a product to sell. It's just some users who have some stuff to say on a frame-work that some other people with a hard-on for developing frame-works by which people can do so are using.

That said, you will meet a few “equally talented” individuals. You'll also meet the occasional highly-capable genius who finds notions of “equally talented” smirk-worthy. You'll also meet a ton of just-plain crazy. Because of what this is at the end of the day – what an ecumenical approach allows.

As to “furthering Satanism” *chuckles* that's just not how it works. It's a tool. It works for “us”; “we” don't work for it. Then again, witnessing people come to terms with that is fun in it's own way – that's how they learn, and is, somehow, perversely entertaining.

"Hopefully I will meet some equally talented individuals for these type of discussions, as to how we can further the cause of Satanism within our local communities and the world at large."

Unfortunately I cannot act upon your satanic motivation. Only you can experience your own personal apotheosis. Mine would be neither here nor there in reference to you until both of us acting in such a way syncs up by chance. I wouldn't hold my breath.
