This is a pretty cool blog: a lot of effort has gone into composing it. Thank you.

It reads as a poetic and subjective sort of piece, which underlines something of great significance.

This “thing” which is referred to in the blog appears to me to be the fear of death. It is interesting how this “thing” sort of chases human beings from an early age and also terrorises rather powerful and formidable mythical entities.

Anthropologist Ernest Becker pondered on the place of death in our lives and argued that our meaningful/cultural/mythical/social fabrications were an attempt to stave off the terror of our own inevitable death on the one hand, and our primal desire for immortality, on the other hand.

To exterminate or extinguish consciousness forever, to reduce our precious bodies to mere dust – this is the mission of this “thing” you have identified, in my opinion.

Your blog suggests that these mythical demons or angels etc., do not quite operate as they are intended to function in the face of this terrible “thing.” They are not going to assuage our fears and provide relief as immortal characters in a “metaphysical narrative of comfort.” They do not transcend and live on.

It is a credit to you that you do not just completely rely on this “metaphysical narrative of comfort” as so many others seem to do. I would recommend just casting aside every “metaphysical narrative of comfort” and look death right in the eye. It will be a cold dark experience, but a great one.

    Again, cool blog.

Hey girl, I really loved your post - you are very strong, and I can only imagine the struggle of being raised in such a restrictive faith. My friends are covered in skulls and Jormungands and literal prison tattoos so yours are rather tame. I remember someone suggesting to me years ago that piercing the body and getting ear rings, nipple rings, nose rings, etc., was a way of laying claim to one’s own body. Seemed like a reasonable sort of claim to make.

Getting tattoos seems to me to work in a slightly different way. Tattooing seems to be a way of writing your own story on your own body in the form of images and symbols etc.

It is like: here is my story, or me, in images and symbols and it is a story I believe in strongly enough and wish to assert enough to get it tattooed permanently on my own body for all time. Pain be damned – here is my story displayed on my very own body, the body that I express my life through, that is my life.

Mormonism is just another type of control.

I appreciate your conundrum: I want my loved ones to appreciate my story and love me, but the way I am expressing my story on my body and the content of my story are not accepted and I am sad.

Mormonism is just another type of control.

Imagine if you told them that your core story is Satanism. I mean the tattoos you have sort of illustrate some themes which are Satanic in character. What if you displayed that key story to the whole world on your body and made your family aware of that story?

I guess either they accept the story or else you need to find another group of people who are proud to live it with you. Either way: don’t hurt yourself, cause that definitely ain’t Satanism.

It's some pretty weak-sauce that those who abide in covenant of Abraham would have a thing to say about body modification one way or another. (Tattoos are bad: we must return our bodies in tact to our maker, but genital mutilation is a must? The old testament is a comedy, and best read as such). Personally, I have tatoos, and not a single one of them are very conspicuous - namely because they are for me - reminders to myself: some scars you chose. Some you don't get to. In that respect what others make of them is tertiary. That they are inconspicuous to begin with, though, already necessitates a level of intimacy that is well-beyond apprehensions regarding an approval that was never asked for in the first place. They are reminders to myself. Lastly, without wanting to wax poetic - they don't hurt nearly as much as people claim. At worst they hurt only somewhat and in this sort of transient way that is nothing as compared to what they are there to signify in the first place. It's not about pain, at least for me it's about permanence... very few things are, and the things that are are for so only in my eyes. They are, in that way, as selfish as any other form of self-harm. I don't see anything wrong with this, either. Pain is a way to remember. How I learn, but what is most important (to me - why I have any at all) is that these signify things that will not and cannot be undone. What I will take with me to the grave. Answerable to only by myself to myself. It's some pretty weak-sauce that those who abide in covenant of Abraham would have a thing to say about body modification one way or another. Whether you wish to care for other people or not is entirely up to you – there are no obligations and no constraining dogma in my brand of Satanism at least.

Some Satanists are utterly misanthropic i.e. they dislike other human beings for whatever reason.
Some Satanists don’t possess a great of trust when it comes to other human beings – they are wary.
Some Satanists believe in an ethic of do unto others as they do unto you.

Individualism is quite important in many brands of Satanism – it tends to be a self-centered religion or approach to living.

I’m not sure there is a real Satanism or a real Satanist – my views have changed a lot over the years.

@MJ1 largely agreed, though I think the whole man-as-another-animal pillar does bring with it, if not a certain amount of misanthropy, then at least a definite amount of contempt that is virtually indistinguishable from misanthropy. "For every one the want is bad, what you want of us, we know not, yet we shall know" and such. Barring a Christ-type, nearly everyone is bound by the predictable hierarchy of needs and corporeal wants rather than elevated principals, loyalties, morals and the like. The disparity between the things people pay lip-service to in the best of times vs the reality on the ground when no one is watching also lends itself simultaneously to stark introspection of self and haughty disdain of others. It would be a curious specimen indeed who manages to grok this while at the same time remaining totally optimistic about the motivations - what drives the turbine - of their "fellow" man.@MJ1 largely agreed, though I think the whole man-as-another-animal pillar does bring with it, if not a certain amount of misanthropy, then at least a definite amount of contempt that is virtually ind...See more

Better stated: the answer you've not been waiting for. Satanism isn't an actual thing. It's a pejorative. A thing you get accused of adhering to by others with functioning sets of eyes because they have no other word for it. There's no dogma about it. There's no courses or degrees - ranks or whatever. There's vitriol. Liberal sprinklings of it. It's mostly that. Entirely that, actually. And if that makes you an individual, by name, it's namely because you've slammed the goal-post and been singled-out by witnesses who, in all honesty, can't really do much about it except drop their already slack jaws and watch. They won't know what to make of you. That, in turn, makes you an "individual", but that title is secondary. You can't get away with aiming for that. Because by default one is already an "individual". Womb to tomb types of alone. It's obvious and trite to push that angle. Those types just don't last long at all. In short: individualism is intrinsic. "this" is about something else, and you either grok it or you don't.Better stated: the answer you've not been waiting for. Satanism isn't an actual thing. It's a pejorative. I think it was Noam Chomsky who said that free speech exists when people are allowed to express views, which other people may find abhorrent and reprehensible - people may not agree with the views expressed, but at least people should be entitled to express those views. That is free speech.

A new form of exclusion seems to have taken place in the last twenty years or so, with regards to the views which circulate in the society. Basically, this “thing” called the internet has become this vast sprawling unconscious - a sort of dumping ground, a more or less secure container, for freshly repressed views and speech.

The sort of society we live in aboveground is a rather sanitised, pristine, overly positive one where everyone is carefully watched, listened to and judged. It does still contain speech, which increases desire for whatever reason, but this type of society is still only possible, because the society seems to have the capacity to drive more and more disqualified speech into this vast unconscious container called the internet.

Is there really any other option than to spread this excluded speech online?

The authorities, whoever they are, still dig around in this unconscious, particularly in the “deepnet” or “darknet” but there is so much which goes untouched and unseen in this unconscious.

Is it any wonder that so many self-aware Satanists spend a great deal of time online?
