Rationality's Cardinal Sins:

See pic.

The correlates to LaVey's Nine Satanic Sins should be self-evident. I renamed six, added three, and deleted three, all for the sake of brevity, clarity, fitness to purpose, and flexibility, the last because, by using my own words, I take control of the lexicon, freeing me up to deviate from LaVey's original conceptions if I need or want to.

The three of LaVey's that I left out (pretentiousness, counterproductive pride, and lack of aesthetics) are important in their own right, but belong on a different sort of list, one that isn't focused squarely on the quality of the Satanist's rationality per se.

Disgust's Pet Peeves:

See pic.

Some people who say Satanists are born, not made, are intuiting the essence of Disgust's Pet Peeves and furthermore are intuiting the universality of these peeves among bona fide Satanists. For my part, I've never met anyone who seemed genuinely Satanic who didn't feel disgust when in the presence (or even just at the thought) of these characteristics.

The alert reader will remember "pretentiousness" from LaVey's Nine Satanic Sins, and will also quickly see that "obstinacy" and "philistinism" are renamings of "counterproductive pride" and "lack of aesthetics" from that same list of sins. Meanwhile, "idiocy" is a synonym of "stupidity" but has a very specific implication of incurring risks or costs for the sake of insufficient or nonexistent benefit. "Expending all those resources to develop a product no one will buy is the height of idiocy!"

SORCERER'S LIE

I will tell you a story that isn’t true. Don’t believe a word of it. Every sorcerer must have his lie. This is mine.

Out of flame and sulfurous smoke stepped Satan into the cavern. He had chosen to manifest with the horns, hooves, and tail of an antelope. He said gently and quietly, “All eyes and all ears on me,” and behold, he was instantly obeyed by all the legions of Hell.

“I call twelve of my most beloved to stand before me,” said Satan. “To each I shall give a new name.”

All the myriad hordes waited breathlessly in suspense. Who were the most beloved of Satan?

“Ayn Rand, step forward,” came the command from the regal lips. He was obeyed. “I name you Rationality.”

“Galileo Galilei, step forward,” came the command, which was obeyed. “I name you Empiricism.”

“Charles Darwin, step forward,” came the command, which was obeyed. “I name you Materialism.”

“Voltaire, step forward,” came the command, which was obeyed. “I name you Atheism.”

“Sigmund Freud, step forward,” came the command, which was obeyed. “I name you Carnality.”

“Giacomo Casanova, step forward,” came the command, which was obeyed. “I name you Appetite.”

“George Gordon Byron, step forward,” came the command, which was obeyed. “I name you Passion.”

“Friedrich Nietzsche, step forward,” came the command, which was obeyed. “I name you Catharsis.”

“Henry Louis Mencken, step forward,” came the command, which was obeyed. “I name you Cynicism.”

“Gustave Flaubert, step forward,” came the command, which was obeyed. “I name you Disgust.”

“Temujin, Genghis Khan, step forward,” came the command, which was obeyed. “I name you Severity.”

“Heraclitus, step forward,” came the command, which was obeyed. “I name you Distance.”

“BEHOLD!” roared Satan. “I give you: my Twelve Apostles!”

The cavern, in all its height, width, and length, reverberated with deafening cheers.

Satan then said, “But there is more.” Satan then transformed into Lucifer, who manifested with the great leathery wings of a pterodactyl, and the pinkish-white skin, white hair, and pinkish eyes of an albino mortal. Lucifer said, “Rationality, Cynicism, and Disgust, approach into my presence,” and he was obeyed by the ones who had been Ayn Rand, Henry Louis Mencken, and Gustave Flaubert. “You three Apostles,” said Lucifer, “Shall found and foster the Order of the Fallen, which shall be dedicated to the principles for which you are now named, and whose champion shall be Lucifer, the Morning Star.”

Satan then transformed into Beelzebub, who manifested as a common housefly, wings buzzing, six legs curled inward, five eyes alertly watching those who could barely see him, so small was he. Beelzebub said, “Carnality, Appetite, and Passion, approach into my presence,” and he was obeyed by the ones who had been Sigmund Freud, Giacomo Casanova, and George Gordon Byron. “You three Apostles,” said Beelzebub, “Shall found and foster the Order of the Fly, which shall be dedicated to the principles for which you are now named, and whose champion shall be Beelzebub, Lord of the Flies.”

Satan then transformed into Belphegor, who manifested as a beautiful naked woman whose jet black hair reached to the floor in a voluptuous cascade. Belphegor said, “Empiricism, Materialism, and Atheism, approach into my presence,” and he (or she) was obeyed by the ones who had been Galileo Galilei, Charles Darwin, and Voltaire. “You three Apostles,” said Belphegor, “Shall found and foster the Order of Moab, which shall be dedicated to the principles for which you are now named, and whose champion shall be Belphegor, the Beauteous One.”

Satan then transformed into Leviathan, who manifested as a gargantuan finned serpent, barely able to fit within the confines of the cavern, and whose gills went unused in the dry and smoky space. Leviathan said, “Catharsis, Severity, and Distance, approach into my presence,” and he was obeyed by the ones who had been Friedrich Nietzsche, Genghis Khan, and Heraclitus. “You three Apostles,” said Leviathan, “Shall found and foster the Order of the Sea Beast, which shall be dedicated to the principles for which you are now named, and whose champion shall be Leviathan, the Dweller in the Deep.”

And with that, there was an ear-shattering thunderclap, and Satan in all his guises was gone, and gone as well were the Twelve Apostles. All was silence and wonderment.

I HAVE A BONE TO PICK:

II can most certainly understand where you are coming from in a religious context. I myself was devoutly Satanic by LaVeyan standards. Upon approval of my registered membership with the Church of Satan, I pieced together a rather thick active membership packet with a lengthy description, introduction letter, a copy of my master resume, photocopies of diplomas, etc. LaVey was really onto something back in the day and it shows as support for his Satanic philosophy permeated throughout the western world. With this being said, I no longer hold LaVey in such a high standing.-Anton LaVey was an intelligent man and there is no doubt about that. However, upon closer inspection of "his" philosophies, it becomes quite clear that his entire religious career was based upon the 7th Satanic Sin. He repackaged old philosophies and ideas of those who came before him and tied it up into a little bundle which he marketed as Satanism and profited in various forms such as money, publicity, fame (infamy), and a cult following. I am envious of what he was able to achieve, but not envious of his hypocritical methods. Anton LaVey is well known for saying, If he didn't come forward to speak for the devil, then someone else less qualified would. However, if he was atheistic, there was no devil to speak for. If he meant mankind in the esoteric sense of the world 'devil', then the 'devil' has already been spoken for by other great philosophers who came well before him. I ask to the LaVeyan Atheist Satanist... What refer to yourself as a Satanist when a more accurate word to use is LaVeyan philosopher?-My issues with the Church of Satan are another story entirely. Subject of conversation for another day. This post isn't relevant to the topic so I'll cut it off here.

Yes there was because that devil was the Satanist. Satan is not a symbol of a specific philosophy. He is like a mirror the individual can see himself reflected in. Satanism is a personality trait codified as a religion.

I already covered what you are speaking of in the sentence which follows directly after what you quoted from me. Please, read it in it's entirety.

It does not even have to be philosophers. A so-called retard like me could have started a religion based on Satan which became known as Satanism. The 60s was the period of time with freedom of speech and free sexual expression. CoS makes a huge mistake by referring to LaVey as he was some sort of prophet. Being a Satanist is a personality trait. It's not a philosophy itself.

TOM RIDDLE:

Do you assert that one is a Satanist based upon Satanism which is a character trait and not a philosophy? If so, this is contrary to what Anton LaVey had established with his philosophy of Satanism. Yes, we are born a Satanist because we embrace our true selves. The philosophies are simply a defining of the Satanist through words describing the philosophies which best describe their accepted nature.

-

You have mentioned this before in another forum topic. I think you and I may possibly be at an impasse in regards to what Satanism is accordance to Anton LaVey.

Yes being a Satanist is a personally trait you are born with. I cannot state what kind of personality trait a Satanist is because it depends on the individual's interpretation of the mythological Satan he see himself reflected in like a mirror. "Satanic philosophy" is in reality just a Satanist defining his own personal philosophy he creates to suit his goals which is why I separate it from being a Satanist. In the last 10 years I have identified myself as a Satanist I have changed philosophy many times and I have moved from atheism to theism to atheism to now a position where I no longer care with philosophy because the ritual chamber serves as a barrier between my rationality in mundane life and my emotional openness inside the ritual chamber.

Tom your dick is small. Some girl probably laughed at it many years ago and hurt your feelings. That's why you're retarded and hate women.

It's okay to have a small dick. You just won't ever get a girlfriend. Chubby men have stubby dicks all the time. I've seen them, and I laughed.

That's why you're gay, or "asexual" as you call it. And now you've found yourself a butt-buddy. Good for you. God made someone for everyone.

Why would I want a girlfriend? What can women bring of value to the table in a man's life?
