Can you spot the Satanist? | Forum

I’ve now been a Satanist since 2011, and I’m shocked at the massive number of people I’ve met through the years that discreetly or overtly “suggested” to me that they are Satanists. Some are people who you would automatically associate with Satanism due to the way they look (satanic shirts, tattoos, etc.) and some you wouldn’t know they are Satanists until they tell you or give you the ol’ wink and a nod. This would especially become apparent when I would wear GHOST T-shirts. You can actually spot Satanists, and hardcore Christians when you wear that attire. The Satanists would nod their head at you like “yea, I’m a Satanist too”, and the Christians would scoff at you. I would get nods from business people, soccer moms, fast food workers, etc. What especially surprised me is how “normal” those people would look. Certainly not clad in black with tattoos.

I believe that Satanism is officially mainstream now. I believe The Satanic Temple has a lot to do with this. I’ve personally seen dozens of appearances by Lucien Greaves on Fox News this past few years. The Church Of Satan has a large presence on Twitter. Modern Satanism is perfect for a lot of people who see right through all the dogma shoved in our face every day. I don’t wear GHOST apparel any more, or any branded T-Shirts (I now try to draw as little attention to myself as possible now), but I was shocked at the reaction I would get when I would wear overtly Satanic apparel. It was mostly positive! The tide has turned for sure!

Perhaps, they just like the music? I had an acquaintance once, a devout Catholic, who absolutely loved rock and black metal. Listening to it was her guilty pleasure. Hardcore Christians are vocal but not many of them. Secularized society doesn't see Satanism as a threat to law and order, usually... that is until someone gets murdered by a mindfucked zombie killer kid and it hits tabloid headlines.

@Anna.

Exactly. Not all fans of certain types of music are Satanists, just because the lyrics may have a satanic theme.

@Dan.

When I see others wearing GHOST merch or black metal shirts, I don't automatically nod to them in recognizing them as a satanist! In fact, it doesn't even cross my mind. No, you can not spot a satanist because humans cannot see into each other's minds. Silly.

As a Satanist myself I hardly listen to Black Metal. I am into punk, hardcore Punk, NSHC, NS Metal, RAC, Mainstream Metal. Blacks my favorite color don't get me wrong. But that doesn't just labels me as a Satanist because of the attire I wear. Satanism isn't really taken seriously anyways. It was never meant to be mainstreamed. LaVey even has some quote on Satanism being for the few.

This quote?

"Satanism is developing two circles, an elitist group which I always intended my church to be, and the faddists who are becoming Satanists because it’s the thing to do.

I think more and more people who are actual Satanists hide it because Satanism have got a ridiculous rumor because of the stupidity of TST. Satanism is also associated with black metal which I also find stupid. Then we have CoS who are nothing but a totalitarian gang who bullying anyone who don't buy into their false premise that they have the authority to define satanic beliefs because they were the first satanic organisation. The modern state of Satanism is a mess.

It doesn't bother me if the reputation of Modern Satanism is a mess whether it's because of COS, TST or its spinoffs. A person on the Left Hand Path shouldn't care about the reputation of what he or she practice's. The Satanist lives outside of the herd, so why care about a reputation of something that wouldn't hold any benefit to you on the Left Hand Path? The Left Hand Path is about focusing on the self, not the reputation outside of the self in front of the herd. The Satanist could care less of how the state of Satanism is today. Satanism is for the few. A person who is a Satanist or someone on the Left Hand Path could do the math that if everyone has an interest in Satanism, it isn't Satanism. I'll put this quote again from LaVey, maybe it might dawn on some of you, "Satanism is developing two circles, an elitist group which I always intended my church to be, and the faddists who are becoming Satanists because it's the thing to do."

Satanism will continue until the end of the human race,  it doesn't matter how many mistakes its representing  grupos have made. Just think about Catholicism,  for hundreds of years they have killed thousands of poeple and have done the worst atrocities  in human history,  Musulmanism ,Judaism , and the rest of religious groups,  the have committed a lot crimes and genocides , violations of human rights,  hello!!!! they are still there, and the people that belong to those groups don't care about it. As soon as there is a Satan around ( metaphorically  speaking) that is good enough for Satanism to continue  on the sands of times.
