Is the use of cannabis discouraged in satanism?

Why should anything be discouraged or encouraged? You do what you feel is right for you and accept the consequences. From what I remember, the Church of Satan condemns the use of drugs mainly for PR reasons. On the other hand, they have no means of controlling their own members to that extent. It's just a nod to the general audience: "Look, we are a respectable, decent and prestigious organization. No junkies allowed."

The key phrase here is "Indulgence not compulsion". You must study these tenets as if they are commandments. Then apply them religiously. Sea horses.

It is worth noting that if it is in an area (state, country, or municipality) that allows for its legal use it is ok. Satanists are law abiding after all.

Most importantly, it must be cosigned by authority first.

Satanism broadly and across-the-board discourages the line of thinking that would compel someone to feel the need to ask.

I know the church of satan reccomends everyone follows the laws of their government. but a lot of organizations say it's up to the individual. my advice would be to do what is best for you. if you feel marijuana interferes with your life in a negative way don't do it. if you can use marijuana and have some sort of positive results (relief from pain anxiety, muscle spasms ect) without legal ramifications than why not? personally I do not use marijuana because I turn into a lazy fat hog when I use it. I have a 5 year old son so I'm not going to be a good mother if I'm sitting on the couch eating hohos and laughing at adult cartoons all day.

Fatuous statements do not necessarily come off as intended.

Fun Fact: The super fundamentalist Christian subgroup called Rastafarians consider ganja sacramental. It grew from some dead ethiopian king's (because they were all kings) grave so they consider it their prophet's final gift, allegedly.  They also listen to the verse in Leviticus that says you don't ever cut your hair, as opposed to the other one in Deuteronomy that says you should cut your hair.

No actually according to the satanic bible do whatever makes you happy and doesn't involve any unwilling participants. The use of cannabis is not bad. Cannabis is a natural occurrence and helpful for so many things. I am a cannabis advocate so feel free to hit me up with any questions.

It only says this in the contexts of Satanic Sex and Sacrifice.

Assuming we take Lavey's Satanism to be the authoritative source regarding what Satanism is, it should be noted that LaVey's Satanism was, and in many ways still is, a counter-point to all things hippy and new-age. The tone of the The Satanic Witch is especially derisive of the very notion of chemically induced consciousness expansion - a topic mentioned briefly in the Satanic Bible.

Eisegesis of the Satanic Bible aside, the stance of the C/S (Church of Satan) in regards to cannabis use can be found here:  https://www.churchofsatan.com/policy-on-drug-abuse.php It unequivocally condemns it precisely because it has nothing at all to gain and everything to lose by condoning it. As your own god, it is implied that you are capable of making your own decisions and are free to ignore the advice of others at your own peril.

Of course, I still have to question exactly how satanic a person can really be who needs the approval of a higher authority to determine what is and is not acceptable to indulge in.

again, I am fairly new to the scene. I was a tad confused because if I am my own god, then why can I not make my own rules. But there seemed to be a strong disdain for substance use.

also in regards to severe and persistent mental illness, cannabis helps and has fewer side-effects than anti-psychotics and mood stabilizers. so gain..

Understood. Where it gets a tad more murky is that, with the internet, basically anyone with an internet connection and basic writing ability is able to offer their two cents as to what "real" or "true" Satanism is. Subsequently there are as many competing "true Satanisms" out there as there are people who call themselves "Satanists". This forum accommodates this and is not by any means fixated on the Church of Satan. When one broadly asks what is or is not permissible in "Satanism" the assumption is generally that they mean the Satanism those in the western hemisphere are most familiar with - the one promulgated in the writings of LaVey.

Most "Satanists" are familiar enough with the tenets of the Church of Satan well enough to compare and contrast their personal vision of what Satanism is or should be vs. Anton LaVey and by extension the Church of Satan's vision of what Satanism is or should be without necessarily speaking for the Church of Satan. With that in mind, it should be noted, however, that the Church of Satan as an entity unto itself does not condone the use of cannabis. Whatever consequences come about through using it are all on you. That's their take on the issue. Whether or not the C/S speaks for the entirety of Satanism is a matter open to endless debate.

It is possible, and even likely, that the C/S as an organization foresaw the legal and media quagmire that would result in being associated with some misdirected attempt by some member or another to get marijuana legalized on account of "religious reasons" and preemptively made a statement to snub such attempts at the root. Were it not for that potential and likely scenario, I have no doubt that their opinion regarding the use of cannabis would be as much a non-issue as their opinion regarding whether pineapple belongs on pizza.

Satanism has many outlets, mainly because many people have different ways of living. Satanism is defiance, and I've seen many waiving the label in favour of or against many a social ill, as well as norm. Some are for/against trannys, weed, gayness, animal/human abuse/violence.

Point is, a Satanist can rationalize in a realistic way, can figure themselves out on an individual level of self scrutiny. Long way of saying, a Satanist owns themselves, one way or another.

Being able to do so requires trial and tribulation with one's self, obtaining wisdom from experience, self challenge. If you are for/against one thing or another, you are able to hold your ground rationally, or in life. Approval is up to other people. Some of us have no friends, no lovers. Neither do the best of many devils.

If you're a pot smoker, go without, if you think weed is bad, stay high all the time,

see for yourself, its your life, and all you get are the experiences you indulge. That's it.
