"I think humans are less naturally egotistical than LaVey seems to state in his writings. I do not see a problem with someone sacrificing themselves for a larger "social organism", as long as that's what they wish to do."
If a person does something that is altruistic because he or she wishes to do so, then that person is acting selfishly. It's less about a tendency to fuck people over for personal gain and more about recognizing that every action, regardless of how many people it affects or benefits, is self-motivated. I would say that egotism in human behavior is more natural than the recognition and acceptance of its role in our individual behavior patterns.
Oh wow this thread seems to have most replies ha ha.
I'm new here so I'm browsing some threads to make myself known around here a little bit.
My story is a crazy one and even if I told you , you wouldn't believe me. As a teenage Satanist though ( who wore pentagrams, studs and upturned crosses yeah) I followed La Vey. I was also interested in being a Luciferian at some point but dismissed it as La Vey's teachings caught my attention quite well.
I'm also very interested in Occult and the paranormal besides Satanism. I must admit, I was a Catholic before, then I converted to the Christian belief with a close friend of mine back then. But I returned back to Satanism as that was what attracted me an what I wanted. Due to the confusion I was undergoing I had a massive nervous breakdown that made me think things from another perspective and turned atheist. However like I said in my introduction, Satanism still attracts me in more than one way and since I now grew older I'm slowly slowly trying to introduce it into my life again.
Hope to hear from you all at some point :)
